Blake Mohr, Chief Executive Officer
In 2001, Blake Mohr along with twenty general agents joined forces to form Capitas Financial. Blake is now CEO of Capitas Financial. Before Capitas Financial, Blake was with ReliaStar for 14 years where he held several key senior management roles and was responsible for managing the company’s 401(k) business. Prior to ReliaStar, Blake was employed by Coopers & Lybrand as a member of their audit staff. Blake holds a B.A. in accounting from the University of Northern Iowa and is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
Roger Weber, Chief Financial Officer
Roger Weber oversees all aspects of the finance and accounting functions of the organization. Roger is responsible for the analysis of budgets, financial trends and forecasting for the Capitas corporate office. Roger has worked in the financial services industry – primarily in the areas of finance and operations – for the past 30 years. Prior to this, Weber held several senior operational management roles with UnitedHealth Group and ING US Financial Services. He graduated from Northern State College with a degree in accounting, and completed the Tuck Executive Program at Dartmouth College in 1994. Roger is a Certified Public Accountant and Certified Internal Auditor.
Amy Noga, Vice President of Operations
Amy Noga is responsible for daily operations, project management and resource management at the Capitas Home Office in Minneapolis. She is responsible for building and maintaining strategic relationships with Capitas’ preferred carriers, national accounts and vendors. Amy has extensive operational and leadership experience and is very knowledgeable in the areas of life, disability and long term care insurance. Prior to joining Capitas, Amy oversaw the benefit administration and underwriting teams at Aon, a benefit consulting and administration firm. She also previously worked at Prudential Life Insurance Company where she managed a number of strategic national accounts and new business teams. She also attended the University of Minnesota where she received her BA in Economics.
Ryan Walsh, Operations Supervisor
Ryan Walsh manages a number of projects and initiatives at Capitas Financial’s corporate headquarters in Minneapolis. He is responsible for managing carrier and vendor relationships, administering technology and security measures for the organization, and oversees day-to-day office operations. Ryan has more than 10 years of experience in the insurance industry. Prior to Capitas he worked for a multiple-line insurance agency supporting a general agent with 20 agents in the Twin Cities area. Ryan graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Stout with a degree in Business Administration with an emphasis on Sales and Marketing.
Shara Beekman, Manager of Marketing & Events
Shara Beekman is responsible for developing content and design templates for Capitas branding, promotional and sales support resources, including website collateral and social media. She coordinates the distribution of print and electronic correspondences and also assists Capitas agencies with their marketing needs. Shara also manages the Capitas meeting and events planning as well as the coordination and execution. Shara is a graduate of Bethel University where she obtained a B.S. in Business with emphases in Marketing and Entrepreneurship. She also holds a minor in Graphic Design.
Steven Lacher, Director of National Account Sales
Steven Lacher joined the Capitas Financial team in 2015 as the National Accounts Manager, now Director of National Account Sales. He is responsible for managing Capitas Financial’s 20-plus national account relationships and overseeing account operations at the Capitas headquarters in Minneapolis. With more than 20 years of insurance experience, Steven is a successful relationship builder and works closely with advisors, producers and clients to create successful life insurance strategies in both the institutional and independent marketplaces. He is committed to providing exceptional service and support, and is dedicated to helping advisors and their clients find the right insurance solutions. Steven began his career in the insurance and financial services industry in 1989. Prior to joining Capitas, he was the Principal at Netstreet Brokerage – Midwest. Steven has also held various roles with National Brokerage, ING/ReliaStar Life, Prudential and Northwestern National Life. He obtained a B.A. in Accounting from the Metropolitan State University in St. Paul, MN.
Thomas Parnell, National Accounts Coordinator
Tom Parnell joined Capitas Financial in the fall of 2013 and is responsible for national sales reporting, database management and assisting with National Account operations. Prior to joining Capitas, Tom contributed to statistics research for the University of St. Thomas. Tom obtained a B.A. in Mathematics from the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, MN. He is currently attending the University of Minnesota where he is pursuing a Masters of Financial Mathematics.
Bernie Connell, Vice President of Underwriting
Bernie Connell leads Capitas’ advanced underwriting team and works closely with Capitas principals, marketing and new business staff, as well as sales vice presidents providing support of field underwriting pre-sale questions, and informal and formal life insurance application processing. Bernie assists in reviewing medical and financial information of impaired risk, rated, and declined life insurance applicants and provides recommendations on how best to present and submit client applications in order to obtain the best offer, product, pricing and placement. Bernie has more than 25 years of experience in the life and health insurance industry where he specializes in impaired risk and financial life underwriting. Before joining the organization, Bernie held senior brokerage underwriting positions with Prudential and MetLife Brokerage.
Alain Wittman, Director of Annuities
Alain Wittman leads annuity sales and marketing efforts for Capitas Financial. He works closely with Capitas principals, sales vice presidents and back-office staff in the marketing, sale and processing of annuity business. Alain has more than 15 years of experience in the financial and insurance marketplace. He began his career as an Internal Wholesaler with American Express before taking on insurance and financial consultant roles with local financial advisory firms. Prior to joining Capitas, Alain held several roles with ING ReliaStar. He most recently served as the Business Development Manager for the Midwest territory where he has responsible for recruiting and training new reps, providing sales support and management.
Kelly Stolis, Annuity Operations Manager
Kelly Stolis joined the Capitas Financial team in September 2015 as the Annuity Operations Specialist. She works closely with the Director of Annuities to manage daily business operations including new business and contracting, agent appointments, quotes and illustrations. Kelly previously worked as a Project Coordinator with Medtronic and held various other positions with Land O’Lakes, Boston Scientific and Hearts & Hammers. She graduated from the University of St. Thomas with a Master’s in Business Communication.
Melissa Fedor, Administrative Specialist
Melissa Fedor joined the Capitas Financial home office team as an Administrative Specialist in May of 2017. Melissa is responsible for supporting the Capitas executive team with marketing efforts, meeting coordination and administration support. Her background includes training, management and sales. Before joining Capitas, Melissa enjoyed 3 years as a personal banker for Wells Fargo, and 14 years as a Portrait Studio Manager for Lifetouch.
